  1. If they’re refugees, surely whatever red tape and lack of work opportunities existing in Japan, is still far better than dealing with the Taliban?

  2. When people would rather live under Taliban rules than in Japan, you know that living in this country is really really bad.

  3. well done Japan.. keep follow natures law and dont mix up.. they know what they doing..thats why its peaceful there..

  4. Pretty terrible that they are using a picture of Taliban member waving a machine gun for the story as it gives the impression that that is what people from Afghanistan are like and would just add to xenophobia and not wanting to take in more refugees.

Also this is hardly a surprise, the support is poor because the Japanese government don’t want the people here and are only doing so to save face. You just need to look at the recent stories of the international apprenticeship schemes and how the workers were treated in that to see exactly how Japan thinks about immigration.

  5. Reading the actual article it’s sounds as if these people are bitching about the fact that the only jobs that they can get being newly arrived gaijin who only speak English (and Dari/Pashto) are too big a step down for them because they “used to work at an embassy”.

Countries accepting refugees owe them nothing more than relative safety and the meeting of their basic needs. Not full language support. Not guaranteed nice jobs.

As for the ones who decided to go back to Afghanistan, meh, they probably miss the Bachi Bazi.

  6. I’m confused here.

    >58 returned to Afghanistan despite the risk of persecution by the Taliban, while seven left for the United States and Britain, according to the evacuees.

So those 58 people who returned to Afghan could not secure refugee status in other countries? Or did Japan just force them back?

    >They said ministry staff visited their homes and told them that living in Japan would be difficult and that a decision on whether to stay or leave the country would have to be discussed with their families.

So did the evacuees have a choice to stay or no? Was it just the officials being kind?

    >So did the evacuees have a choice to stay or not? Was it just the officials being kind?avel expenses would be shouldered and they would receive a 20 percent salary raise.

A 20 percent salary raise? How? Does Japan still have an embassy in Afghanistan where they can still pay their employees or something?

  7. Honestly i dont even get why they even went to japan. Those 2 cultures dont really blend well together. You’d think the most obvious choices to relocate would be other muslim nations.

  8. I mean, the Japanese government should just talk to the US, Canada, UK, Germany etc and try to get them moved to one of those countries where they’ll have a community to help support them

  9. Left to find some juicy welfare checks in those Nordic Muslim countries ….. I personally know 3 different guys with refugee visa. Hardworking mofos that somewhat speak Japanese.

This refugees just didn’t want to work

  10. Typical of Japan, keeping the appearance.

Accepting refugees only not to be seen as a unwelcoming nation not on par with the other G7 countries. But when nobody’s watching it becomes the xenophobic culture it’s always been
