Pregnancy and visa/taking time off

I have been thinking about family plans. I am planning to live here permanently, recently married and we are considering children.

I am permanently employed at a 外資, while they do offer time off after birth (up to 2 years), any time off will not be paid by them. From what I understand, you can get support by the state for up to a certain time after birth. Is there any resource written in easy language (Japanese or English) that explains this process? Tried googling but most stuff I can find is quite hard to read.

I am also worried about Visa. I am on a skilled worker 5 year visa right now (2nd year) and was planning to apply for a permanent visa next as I'll have enough points soon. Switching to a spouse visa seems like a lot of work. Is there any problem staying on the skilled worker visa even though I am not working (but still employed)?

I am also wondering how this will impact points for permanent visa as I will not receive salary during this time. For example, let's say I apply for a permanent visa shortly before taking time off work. My salary will disappear while the application process is going. Does this have any effect?

Also, would love to know if there is any community for foreign mothers in Japan! Thanks a lot for reading
