  1. Looks like the current speculation is unexploded ordnance (well exploded now) or a methane pocket.

  2. Wow, I take my kids to the Miyazaki airport alot to see the planes take off. Glad it wasnt on this occassion. I wonder if the sound was loud.

    – The Miyazaki Airport Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has confirmed that the cause was an unexploded bomb(500-pound U.S. bomb).
    – The passenger plane passed the explosion point two minutes before.
    – A hole 7 meters in diameter and 1 meter deep was formed.
