I want to reach a decent level at Japanese by this time next year, since 2019 I’ve been learning on and off, I undersrand that not being consistent and not studying for longer hours affect my I improvoment but I can’t help but feel somewhat disappointed since I’m still far from being good.
My current level is where I can understand slice of life stories and simple manga like Yotsuba easily, youtube content that are aimed for learners (Onomappu video) or podcasts that are also aimed for learners, but when it comes to actual content that doesn’t discuss general everyday stuff I’m almost completely lost.
There is also a gap between my reading and listening ability, my listening skill is far much better but when it comes to reading i struggle even when reading some general tweets.
I’ve been learning without going into any course, by consuming content and using anki sometimes, watching anime, youtube videos, reading manga, sometimes short stories and articles, learning from songs..etc
But I can’t help but wonder if there is something I can do to accelerate the learning proccess and be able to notice true improvement, I’m curious to know your experieneces

What is a decent level? Figure that out first, then set a goal, and put in the time and effort required to reach that goal. Then set another goal. Rinse and repeat. If you do this enough times you can look back and use these milestones to track improvement.
There is no trick to fast track you on your path and only you know what techniques are effective for your learning style.
Theres only one method that will significantly increase your learning speed, actually this also applies to most skills other than languages, its investing more time.
There is no magic trick, special course or legendary book that will suddenly boost your skills, study 2x as much and you will double your speed, 3x and you will tripple it, thats it.
Keep reading and watching stuff. You need to be putting a serious amount of hours everyday if you want noticeable improvement. Look up the guidelines for extensive reading to make it easier.
