Hello friends,
I posted here a few months ago asking for advice regarding my 管理会社 asking to raise my rent by over 10,000 JPY a month upon renewal in November (November 1st)
I received a lot of kind and helpful advice essentially confirming that my contract would be renewed automatically based on the type of contract that it is (normal contract, not fixed term)
Since then I've had a back-and-forth with the person handling my case via email, in which he justifies the rent increase by saying that property values near me have gone up (which is true, as this area has been developed a lot in recent years) and me countering with the fact that my family's living expenses have also gone up, so it is not reasonable to force us to take on an additional burden.
At this point, however, the contact person on the other side has stopped responding. It has been over one month since his last email to me, and we've called the company's help desk and left our contact information via their 問い合わせ portal online.
I have the original notice of rent increase that was delivered to my house, alongside paperwork to fill out and send back to renew my contract at their new desired price. The new figures (after the 10,000 JPY increase) are printed on them, and the top of the form says "変更がない場合でもご記入の上、必ず返送ください” Which basically means I should send the form back even if there is no change. Can I cross out the "updated" numbers they printed on this form and send it back with the original values written in? Do I have to wait for the contact person on the other side to send me a new contract? Just send this form back blank?
I'm getting worn out just thinking about this, even though it seems I should be within my rights to resist a rent increase. I don't want to be the guy that just folds because the landlord stalled me out long enough for me to panic myself into giving in, but at this point maybe it's worth it to just get rid of the stress…
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
