When I look into being a teacher in Japan, I always hear about JET being the only half-way decent option where everything else is horrible. I have tried applying for JET, but got rejected, and you can only apply once a year. As much as I'd like to go with JET, I also don't want to limit my options. The thing is, I have an SO in Japan. We're both considering ways to close the distance between us, whether it be I come to Japan or they come to America, but the most ideal options always seem to require a whole lot of waiting. But the sooner I can be with my SO, the better.
I know other dispatch companies constantly get a bad rep, but I'm really just trying to get my foot in the door. I've seen a lot of people say that being an ALT should never be a forever job and should just be an entryway, which I'm fine with. I'm currently studying Japanese, and even if I got accepted as a JET, I was always planning on finding better opportunities. I'm just wondering if these other companies are so bad that they aren't even worth sticking with for the short-term. Like, I believe NOVA, GABA, and Borderlink are currently hiring. I've heard nothing but bad things about NOVA and GABA, so I was considering Borderlink. But is Borderlink worth it simply as a foot in the door option?
