  1. Pinching yourself or sometimes asking someone else to pinch you used to “make sure” that you aren’t still dreaming. The idea is that the pain from the pinch would wake you up should you have been in a dream. So basically it expresses that you find the situation unbelievable (this can be in a good or bad sense).

    In this case the representative can’t believe that they won the prize.

    Out of curiosity: Where are you from? As far as I know this gesture is pretty widespread and I’m honestly a bit surprised that you don’t seem to know it.

  2. It might be different in each country. Im use to the “pinching your arm” gesture. I dont think Ive ever seen anyone do it to their cheek.
