Listening to CD dramas as a learning tool.

Hi! I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use CD dramas as listening tools for immersion. Are there any slice-of-life ones one could listen to on the bus or train, for example, to start acquiring the sound and pronunciation?

Any recommendations?

Or are they too anime-like and not accurate representations of everyday use of Japanese?

  1. I feel like they’re not that useful if you’re not at the level where you can listen for enjoyment, unless you have a script to read along with. I suppose if you just want to listen to ambient Japanese patter it’s fine, but there’s not a lot of context to be able to work out what’s going on if you miss stuff.

All the ones I’ve encountered are anime-like/based on anime – which does not mean that they’re not useful. Everything that is aimed at a Japanese audience is useful – but you can’t expect actors in any genre to sound like they’re having a conversation with Tanaka down the street because that would be boring.

Don’t really have recommendations because I found I didn’t enjoy them much and wasn’t getting anything out of them.
