how hard is it to read a junior bunko novel in Japanese?

Hello. I was just wondering how hard a futabasha junior bunko novel like Higurashi would be to read in japanese? Is it all furigana?
Currently, I am working towards reading this eventually as my goal for learning Japanese though it may take a while. (Only learned hiragana and katakana)

  1. define reading? there are many variables.

If you talk about casual reading, it gonna take a long time(years).

If yout talk about using at as a learning tool, atleast about n3ish, wich is like ~1year of 2h study a day.

But you have to keep in mind that youre gonna look up grammar points/vocabs extremly often at this stage.

bookwalker is a great way of testing the waters (s/o to u/AlbaNemori), but dont get demotivated from the infamous “first page syndrom”, the first few pages/chapter/volume are always the hardest when starting a new work.

Also its a huge difference if you are reading digitally or physical.

As looking up words will be the most time consuming task, digital media will increase your progression speed drasticly (internet < kindle < physical is the lookup speed order).

Already doing a bunch of reading(comprehensive reading at your level like graded readers etc.) will also help you accomplish your goal faster, as you they will already train your reading comprehension and your reading flow.

Lastly, no matter how good you are prepared, your first few novels will alwasy be a pain in the ***, we all suffered through our first novels, dont get demotivated and keep grinding
