Hey everyone!
I am looking for suggestions on going to Beppu from Jan 1- Jan 4 2023. I will be traveling with 5 friends, and we are renting a house, taking a train from Osaka to Beppu after splitting off from a much larger tour group. The big questions I have are:
* How can we spend as much time in an onsen as possible? We are a mixed gender group, with tattoos.
* We are interested in some outdoor time, hopefully some hiking? Is there good hiking around Beppu?
* We want to see the Hells of Beppu – what are other tourist things we should see?

Beppu is known to be tattoo friendly, of course you should confirm with the place where you want to go, but it should not be hard to find a place. You best bet is likely to go to a onsen and split by gender and just decide at what time you will exit.
