I saw that frog in Japanese is Kaeru, with kero/gero being used for their sounds. And gecko is usually the lizard. So I was wondering why we see so many use of Geko for frogs or frog characters in animes. I couldn’t find anything on that. Anyone have any idea?

You were already pretty close! ゲコ is yet another frog onomatopoeia. You probably saw it as ゲコゲコ, and doubled up kana is usually a clue that a term is onomatopoeic in nature (even if it’s used adverbially or as a name or something).

Lmao, another example is the Japanese name for the Pokemon Greninja is Gekkouga.
