Rough 3 week itinerary. Now that Japan is opening up, I’m considering going back to visit. I also have a goal within my lifetime to visit all prefectures in Japan, so some of my location choices reflect that.
Prefectures I want to cross off my list before I die:
* Hokkaido
* Tohoku: Akita, Yamagata, Fukushima
* Chuubu: Ishikawa, Fukui, Niigata
* Kansai: Mie

I am looking for input on pacing, visiting Fukui/Ishikawa, replacing destinations with others from my list above. I do want to revisit Osaka and Kyoto though.

FYI I like nature, old architecture, theme parks. My husband is better able to take vacation time in winter, so we would probably travel then. I forgo Hokkaido in winter because I do not want to freeze.

Day 1 – 3: Tokyo (hotel in Tokyo. I like Shinjuku)
* Rest, eating, karaoke, just experiencing big city life. Nothing solid, and no need.

Day 4 – 5: Hakone (hotel in Hakone)
* Mostly just want to ride the lifts, walk around, and eat black eggs. I want to visit again, and re-experience the time I visited with family.

Day 6-13: Osaka/Kyoto (hotel in Osaka. I have credit card points I can use, so that’s why we’re staying in Osaka.)
* 6, 7, 8: Universal Studios, shopping, karaoke
* 9: Arashiyama
* 10: Kuramadera/Kifune
* 11: Kiyomizudera/Gion
* 12: Fushimi Inari (I can spend a lot of time here)
* 13: Walking around neighborhoods, and my husband wants to visit the Pokemon Center.

Day 14: Fukui
* Not a typically visited place, but never been. I would be interested in seeing Maruoka Castle, or one of the other ruins here. We’d need to find a hotel here. I don’t really like one day stays, but eh)

Day 15-18: Ishikawa (hotel in Kanazawa)
* 15: Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen, and Higashichaya District
* 16: Day trip to Natadera, Yunokuni no Mori Crafts
* 17: Day trip to Shirakawago in Gifu
* 18: Day trip to Yuwaku, and Edo Village

Day 19-22: Tokyo (hotel, maybe Shinjuku)
* Visit Teamlab-Planets, maybe Nikko? do shopping, more Pokemon :/ probably.

Are you using the Shinkansen? Kanazawa station is a tourist attraction itself. Beautiful architecture.
