I just tried applying for Ahamo’s eSIM and was denied – when I asked they told me it’s because I do not have long-term residency as my status and therefore will need to apply for a physical SIM.
This doesn’t make sense to me, why would I need long-term residency for an eSIM but not for a physical SIM? After searching through threads in this sub, I found some other potential issues.
1) My credit card doesn’t have my middle name on it. I’ve read Ahamo may not like that very much.
2) I recently bought a US iPhone 14. Another user from another thread told me that when Ahamo asks for your phone’s EID, they can determine what the model is and therefore where the phone is from. It makes sense if they can tell I’m using an American iPhone that they would deny me.
However, I still wonder why they didn’t use either of those reasons to reject me. Is it true you need to have long-term residency for an eSIM, and has anyone else ran into this problem?
Because my US iPhone 14 has no physical SIM slot, I can’t take it to the Docomo store for them to stick it with a SIM, and I can’t use this phone to apply for an Ahamo SIM. However, I do have an unlocked iPhone 8 with me.
I’m wondering, is it possible that I can apply for a physical Ahamo SIM for my iPhone 8, and then change that into an eSIM that I can use with my iPhone 14 – even though I can’t physically insert that SIM into my iPhone 14?
If this is impossible, I might be unable to use Ahamo. I was thinking about Rakuten up until now but I’ve read a multitude of user opinions on this sub claiming that Rakuten service is shit, so I’ve now been put off from them.

Why did you buy the American model of the iphone 14.
