I recently left a very abusive work place, and after I left, my wife and I are surprised with twin pregnancy! I’ve been doing a bit of freelance work, but nothing significant enough to make it full time, and as I live in Tottori, not much of a career opportunity here either. We have a house here so we’d rather not move to the big cities, however, Fukuoka would be doable as it’s where my wife is from.
My experiences are Art director at an Ad agency and Brand Director at a small real estate firm. I do graphic design, ad design and marketing, video/editing, photography, drones, etc.. Sort of jack of all trades kind of guy. I do a bit of coding here and there for websites, but nothing extreme. Native bilingual in Japanese and English.
Just giving this place a shot for any leads or info, or for someone to nudge me to the right direction in search for a job. Thanks! Here’s my portfolio and LinkedIn for any recruiters here!

Tottori?
Become a pear farmer!
Buy a camel and lead caravans across the narrow sand sea…
Seriously though, try [flexjobs.com](https://flexjobs.com), etc.
Try looking for foreign based remote work, but bear in mind any specific tax obligations.
It can get rather complicated if you’re an American specifically.
They don’t have to be born. That solves more than half your problems. Then start looking for online remote companies.
You’re young and talented and your job is a really good fit for remote work. I think it will be more about perceptions (as in: we feel like we need someone near our office) and competition. I don’t know much about graphic design and freelancing, but I am thinking you’d want to work with Japanese companies and on/through Japanese agencies because otherwise you’d need to compete with things like Upwork and 99 Designs which feels a bit like racing to the bottom.
You could look at foreign companies and perhaps marketing oriented roles.
I don’t think you’re screwed, you’ll just need to hustle to get the next job or gigs.
