Hello all I don’t usually open reddit nor am I fluent in English so forgive me for any possible mistakes.
Just some info for context, I have a mom who has been living in japan for 6 years now. During those 6 years she has tried to apply a teijusha (long term resident) visa for me twice and both were rejected. The second time I was even accepted into an international Japanese high school but was still ultimately denied entry (still a teiju visa not a student’s visa.) I was told that the reason for this is because in the documents that were submitted, there were some discrepancies.
Long story short I have 2 birth certificates, both legitimate and were issued by the government. Basically my parents thought they had lost my first birth certificate and made another only to then find my original certificate. My mother had submitted one of these certificates along with another document that had the number of my OTHER birth certificate written on it. This caused suspicion whether I am her son or not.
I am now 17 years old, turning 18 on January and am now faced with a dilemma. I have found a language school that is willing to apply a student’s visa for me but they have made it clear that they can’t promise me entry because I was rejected twice before (which they claimed would decrease the odds of me being granted entry) and because the lengthy procedure needed to explain why I have two birth certificates. I must also mention that my grandfather is willing to be my sponsor and he is more than able to cover my expenses (does not reside in Japan.)
But my mom, now with her newly obtained knowledge as to why I was rejected twice, had also offered to apply me for another teiju visa. From what I’ve heard from her, it is quite a meticulous process involving doing a dna test with my mother (because of the whole certificate number thing), me submitting brochures of the university/institution I plan to go to, and other miscellaneous things. I think I must also mention that she is married to a japanese (not my biological father).
I am quite skeptical of applying for another teiju visa, one of the reasons also being that I am turning 18 by January of next year and would not be elligible for a teiju visa, but my mom had visited the immigration office and they said as long as I am not yet 18 it should be okay. My mom seems fairly optimistic about it but I find myself leaning more towards applying for a student’s visa, but the language school that is willing to help me has also admitted that they are unsure of what the results will be. Should I apply for a student’s or a teiju visa?

Paragraphs please; this is incredibly hard to read!
If you’re gonna be a student, it makes sense to get a student visa 🤷
Frankly your chances of successfully getting a Long Term Resident visa on the third try are not particularly good.

That’s one of the reasons your chances aren’t very good. While it’s true that you could *probably* sneak an application in before you turn 18, it’s honestly not likely to succeed. Given that you’d be doing DNA tests and have already been rejected twice, there’s a good chance that you wouldn’t be able to complete the process before your birthday.
Your chances are better for a student visa, but they’re honestly still not great. Your school was correct that your previous visa rejections are going to count against you. It will depend on how thorough/motivated the immigration agent examining your application is feeling. If they bother to look at *why* you were rejected, you probably have a good shot of getting the visa. But if they just see “2 prior rejections” and don’t bother looking further you’re going to have trouble.

Just to clarify, is your mother Japanese? Or is she on a long-term resident visa herself? Or is she a Permanent Resident? Or Is your father Japanese? Or are your grandparents Japanese? Or like what attribute do you believe qualifies you for the Long-term Resident visa? (This visa: https://eng.visa-immi.com/list/longterm/)
