What’s Duolingo 2022’s JLPT level ?

I have read some really old opinions on this sub saying that this app is no good, but more recent ones saying that the content has really improved. I’d prefer a more objective answer, so where does the 2022 course content stand in terms of JLPT profeciency level? And why?

The opinions on Duolingo not being good for Japanese do not come from *how much* content it covers, but *how* it teaches it. Just looking at what material it tries to teach you will not give you that objective answer you want.

But having said that, last I heard the course taught ~3200 words and N5+N4 grammar. While Duolingo is not trying to align with the JLPT, it covers all N5+N4 vocab, more than half of N3, plus some N2+N1 words. You can see a graph with the JLPT vocabulary coverage at the bottom of this page: [https://duolingo.fandom.com/wiki/Japanese](https://duolingo.fandom.com/wiki/Japanese)

Do yourself a favor though and do not use this as your primary resource for learning Japanese. When I started with Japanese, I did the first 50% of the course as a supplement on the side while commuting and while I enjoyed doing it, I would absolutely not recommend this as your main/only study resource.

  2. Keep in mind that it’s still not great at showing you grammar (especially if you’re using the app instead of the website), and moderately often gets kanji readings wrong. Yes, in October 2022.

  3. Duolingo teaches hiragana and katakana well but when it comes to teaching the grammar and speaking part.. im not sure. I just dont wanna say ごはんとみずください 30 times a day
