Hey all,
I’m an international student trying to save some money. What are some meals I can make in advance that are filling, healthy (enough) and cost \~200-300 yen to make? I’m of course planning on making many servings in advance, so I understand that I need to pay more up front. I’d just like to not eat the same thing every day!

Ever tried those unsold discount bentos at the supermarket?
Not really something to make in advance, but zaru udon is zero prep and dirt cheap. You can get a pack of noodles for under 50 yen, and a bottle of the soup for around 300.
Someone will probably call me out on it, but I find that instant curry goes well with pasta. Get the cheap ones that are 100 yen each.
those cheap pre-cooked “salad chickens” go really well in cup noodles. Just let it soak in the hot soup to warm it up.
Winter is coming up, and I’ll also throw out that grits are really cheap and extremely filling. You can get a bag of them at somewhere like seijo ishi for around 500 yen, and each serving would only use 1/2 cup or so. Even cheaper if you ditch the milk.
Rice, chicken breast, eggs and frozen vegetables from gyomu super. It is much healthier than eating obento (if you want to cook).
