Hello, my university has an entry level position available for people interested. This is a good opportunity for people who want to get their foot into the university door. We have had one successful hiring, so we decided to add to our team. Here is the announcement link: [https://www.iwate-u.ac.jp/iuic/info/news/2022/02/004574.html](https://www.iwate-u.ac.jp/iuic/info/news/2022/02/004574.html)

Oh, I remember this posting from last year. This is not a good deal. 3.6 million for 5 days a week, no research stipend, for someone with university experience with an LMS?
Edit: Looking at the post history, you hired for this position mid-year in 2021. So either there’s a lot of exploiting, or a bunch of people aren’t lasting more than a semester. Makes sense, if my conditions were like this I’d jump ship too.
Christ, you can make more money being an ALT. The only reason someone would take this is for the experience.

Still, thank you for posting. It could be very useful for those wanting to get into college teaching and then moving on.
“There will be no salary increase, year-end allowance, diligence allowance, or bonus” and Requires an MA or PhD. Damn.
That’s more responsibility than west gate for barely more pay. That salary feels a bit exploitative.
>_The total contract period is up to three years._
More like one foot in the door and one foot out the door.
>_The annual salary shall be 3,600,000 Japanese Yen._
I guess that matches some direct hire ALT gigs. Although that doesn’t include the bi-annual bonuses.
>_There will be no salary increase, year-end allowance, diligence allowance, or bonus._
lol
Just out of curiosity, do you have a permanent working contract at the uni, OP?
How can a job be both entry level and require experience? Only thing entry level about this is the pay.
Is it just the foreigners who get these low salaries?

Sketchy as hell. The university hired someone last year from October as well.
Meaning not only do they pay poorly, not only do they have high requirements, not only do they not give a bonus…
They hire for a six month period to start in order to see if they like the new person – either that or they consistently lose people halfway through the year.

Person A: “I know! Let’s hire inexperienced people, have them do the *exact* same work and hours that experienced people do, because we can pay them shite for it! ”
Person B: “Great plan! We can also limit their contact renewals and fire them *just* when they realize they should be getting more money for the amount of work they do!”
A and B: “MUHAHAHA!” *twirl mustaches* *preps dry dildo*
Higher ups of ~~Tohoku university~~ Iwate University should feel ashamed to put out a posting like that.
edit: fixed wrong university name
I just started my masters! Message again in two years when you double your rate, because I’m not doing a masters to make the same as I do now, and less than what I’ll be making next year sans masters.
You are asking for some pretty high qualifications for that pay. That’s what a third year JET or a direct hire ALT makes. What a joke.
Does Japan even allow foreigners to enter the country due to covid?
I can only see one reason people would take this job:
>Foot in the door and bugger off as quickly as possible.
The upsides are:
– Hiring in September (when JET contracts end, so perfect timing for someone transitioning)
– No publications requirement
Getting that first uni position can be challenging so I kinda understand where OP is coming from. But for that salary you’re not going to get anyone committed to the job nevermind sticking around for more than a year. I feel bad for the students at this university.
To maybe contact someone, from [this page](http://univdb.iwate-u.ac.jp/search?m=home&l=ja) click on either 国際教育センター or 教育学部.
Wow, I thought my uni job was average.
That would make this… a lot less than average.
