Lacrosse has always been my favorite sport, although growing up in Texas it was never very popular. Upon coming to Japan in 2018, I looked a little bit, but found nothing. Most people prefer quick pickup sports like futsal or basketball, which are easy to join and organize. However, I finally had success and I’ve been playing in the national men’s league for the last few years. I was curious about interest among foreign players, as there are only a handful of guya playing in Tokyo. Outside of the major metropolitan area, I’ve never encountered foreign players in the league. There are a few exchange students playing at the collegiate level these days, so I wanted to ask if anyone else knew of players or was personally interested in playing the sport. Anywhere in Japan! There are men’s and women’s teams in all regions that are open recruitment for post collegiate players. I think sports and clubs are a great way to get comfortable using Japanese or enjoying your freetime here if youre struggling in those areas.
