Partner moving in with me, potential problem with the apartment management company?

Hi everyone,

Before contacting my management company, I wanted to know people’s experience. The situation is simple in theory: I moved into a new apartment a few months ago by myself, the contract is under my name, etc. The day I signed the contract I asked to the real estate agent (that is not working or associated with the management company) what I needed to do if by any chance my partner would move in with me and if that would change anything contract or rent wise. They said I only needed to notify the company and that’s it, no rent increase or anything.

The property initially suggested that 2 people could live in it, so again, theoretically, there shouldn’t be any problem. My concern is, my management company is shit. They charge a lot of money for everything yet they have ignored my calls for other matters, they fail to follow up with previous inquiries I had etc. Before contacting them and wasting my time again with them, is there any possibility they can deny my request or increase the rent because another person is living in the unit?

I guess I’m just scared they will try to charge me more.

I checked the contract and it only says that I need to contact the management company if someone else moves in, nothing else.

I’d appreciate any insight on the matter! TIA!
