Hi I’m relatively new to learning Japanese and am having a hard time learning words or even looking up some words and getting different answers. One of them being the word “TRAGEDY” I can’t seem to find the right word or the kanji for it
Use something like weblio to look up sentence usage examples for the word and synonyms of it and pick a word from the sentence examples that seems to echo the usage you want
The dictionary I usually use is [Jotoba](https://jotoba.de). When you say that you get different answers, do you mean that you get multiple answers with no clear distinction between them, or that you have trouble choosing the word that’s most accurate to what you mean? If it’s the latter, you can try the dictionary on [jpdb.io](https://jpdb.io). It has multiple example sentences for most words (rare words might only have one, or might not have English translations for them) which should make it easier to understand the meanings of different words.

Dictionaries are of limited use for this kind of thing
Jisho is my go-to [here](https://jisho.org/search/tragedy)
Reverso context is also pretty useful [and here](https://context.reverso.net/translation/english-japanese/tragic+event)
