Hi all, applying for an exchange program at Waseda this September and I have also applied for a JASSO scholarship. Has anyone here successfully applied for this scholarship? If so, what were your experiences recieving confirmation of the scholarship and if you are aware, how did they choose you for it? Would it be possible to share your GPA? Thanks!

I got JASSO scholarship like 8 years ago.
The application was done simultaneously with the exchange application and I got the reply at the same time. Basically there was a checkbox on the exchange application “if you don’t get the scholarship, will you still do the exchange?”. So all that got JASSO, were accepted to the exchange, and the others were accepted ordered by some ranking.
We didn’t have GPA in my uni (uni grades were pass/fail only). So we were ranked by either first come basis, or teacher/coordinator recommendation (not sure). Out of 3 from my uni, 2 got the scholarship.
When I got the scholarship, it was entirely randomly. I actually didn’t even find out I got it until after I was in Japan, a few days before the semester began. I’m terrible at reading emails though, so I might have just missed it
