Rehoming a cat?

Hi guys, need some advice.

Adopted a (now 4-month old) kitten last month, and everything is going great.

But unfortunately, I’ve also recently had some surprise medical developments that will take a lot of time from looking after her. Just the worst timing possible.

I don’t really have anyone nearby to ask for help, so I’ve been pondering the tough decision of possibly re-homing the cat.

Can anyone offer advice on how to do so? I’m completely unaware of the process here, and don’t want to put the kitten through any difficult process.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  1. Look up Japan cat network on Facebook. Susan, the woman that runs the program, is incredible.

  2. Explaining your situation on Jmty/ジモティー is probably easiest. Lots of people check there who want to adopt, and young kittens are generally easy to rehome.

  3. If money isn’t an issue, there are pet sitting services that can come to your place every day and care for your kitty. There are also pet hotels that do long term care. The pet hotel we left our dogs at when we went on vacation has been doing long term care for 2 years for someone.

pet-home is a pretty good place to post your kitten if you need to rehome them. We adopted our dog from there and had a good experience. Jmty is also popular.

I’m sorry to hear about your medical issues.

  4. Hi. You can try to join a facebook group called Japan Cat Network. They give cats out for adoption there for a cheaper price than pet shops, and also more ethical i think. But they require the cats to be vaccinated and spayed, last time i checked but please check them out yourself. (I made the mistake of giving up my kitty without much knowledge, and now i feel so terrible coz i cant get updates regarding her 😭) anyways i hope you the best!
