Save my yen or convert to USD?

I’m living here until June and getting paid by a local company in yen until October. Should I keep all my yen in a savings account and wait for the yen/USD rate to increase in a couple of years? Or should I just convert to USD right away?

Thoughts?

  1. Which savings account? You can’t have a bank account in Japan after you leave.

Nobody knows what will happen with the USDJPY, if that’s what you’re asking.

  2. Wait until after the midterms. Likely market will go down for a bit as everybody figer points at each other regardless of who wins. After it’s probably a safe bet to convert. If the dollar goes down so will yen.

  3. If you don’t need the cash to live on for a while, hold off until until the dollar weakens.
