Is there a difference between these two sentences

(1) 彼の目的はそのテストに合格することです。
(2) 彼の目的はそのテストに合格する

I used google translate for a sentence

Sentence: His goal is to pass the test.

It gave me the result as (1) but can i also use (2) here?
What is the difference between (1) and (2)? Are they interchangeable?

Are you sure it’s とこ and not こと?

Don’t use Google translate. Machine translation is not accurate and should **never** be used to check for grammatical correctness or naturalness of sentences.

It’s so bad to a point where I’d rather not even try to discuss whether sentence 1 or 2 are natural or correct, given they were provided to you by Google translate.
