I posted on r/medical_advice and got no answer, so now I’m asking here.
I think I’m getting bitten by bugs, but I can’t figure out how or what kind of bugs it could be.
I have a bunch of little itchy red spots on my upper thighs, hips, and butt. And nowhere else. It doesn’t make sense that whatever it is is biting through my underpants instead of going for my exposed arms and lower legs.
I’ve tried spraying myself with insect repellent before bed, but it hasn’t helped. I’ve looked all over for any kind of bugs, but haven’t seen any evidence of them in my apartment.
I’ve even considered it being allergies but since it’s not all over, I don’t think it is.
I have no idea what it could be and I’m getting annoyed with the itching. It’s like having chicken pox.
Does anyone have any clue what it could be?

Could be heat rash, it’s miserable out.
Do you keep your room cold when you sleep? Do you sweat while sleeping? Could be sweat allergy
Go to a doctor. Unless your condition is idiosyncratic, a dermatologist will have seen and treated it before.
Trick from my Africa days: If you want to keep bugs away don’t kill your spiders
Could be bed bugs.
Dani – try putting your futon/bedclothes in the sun to kill them.
If you haven’t been regularly drying your apartment (keeping a humidity monitor and never letting it stay over 70%) you can get what’s called ‘Dani’ also known as Tatami Mat bugs, like bed bugs.
I would recommend starting with ダニアース (dani-aasu) spray every week and see if the situation improves. Keep the house dry (a/c, dehumidifier)
This aside, go to a walk-in clinic and have those bites look at to make sure it isn’t anything non-bug related, like chicken pox like you said
I think we may have found Monkeypox case No. 2.
Since the itchy red spots are localised to just your thighs, butts and hips, it may be rashes. If not then I suggest you inspect the area where you keep your underpants for potential mites(ダニ).
It’s moat likely the common bed bug (Dani), you can buy spray for them at the drugstore. Might want to visit a doctor if the itching gets worse.
It could be a mosquito. I had the same issue and thought it was spider bites or some other bug. However, after spraying mosquito spray in my room, closing the door and going out, it killed whatever was biting me. Could equally be dani though!
