Is it alright to ask a tutor “style” questions?

Recently I started doing online tutoring sessions, and one of the things I was excited about was the prospect of being able to ask about specific issues I’ve been having trouble with. But when I tried asking my tutor a few things he didn’t seem to understand, and then afterward he canceled all of our upcoming sessions. I think this was just a one-off but I wanted to make sure I didn’t commit a faux pas or something.

For the record I wanted to know:

1. How to say that I changed my mind about something I said earlier.
2. How to switch from asking questions about my specific situation to asking about possible hypothetical situations.

There should be tutors out there who would answer those questions right?

  1. My advice is to find a Japanese tutor who is fluent in English and send them a PM about it beforehand

  2. Any good tutor will be able to answer that kind of question. Common sense goes without saying so of course there are limits to the kind of topic you should ask about, but generally speaking a lesson is a safe space for you to be able to ask anything you are curious about or don’t understand. You definitely did not commit faux pas. Hope you find a more reliable tutor.
