Hey all,

I’m turning 20 soon, and I received an invite to the coming of age ceremony next year. I live in Tokyo, in case that makes a difference.

The thing is, my Japanese is pretty poor, I have nobody to go with (Nor do I believe I would know anybody at the event), etc etc… I do wonder if it would be a fun time though.

Does anybody know what to expect from these kinds of things? Thank you

I wouldn’t know but I saw a documentary a while ago that those ceremonies in Okinawa can be pretty wild. I’m sure it’s toned down a lot though.
Let us know how it went!
Foreigner here, went to the one in Keio Plaza Hotel (I think that was it) years ago. They didn’t check my ID or anything, I just had to put my name down. Was wearing a basic suit, pretty much just went for the food but met some solos in there who weren’t Japanese either. Fwiw I went in as a group with my Japanese friends.
