If you search online for a JR pass webiste, you get a slew of really shady websites that are not JR, that charge strange fees. I really don’t trust them and see other posts online about people having bad experiences. Can anyone explain what’s going on here and where someone can actually get a JR pass? Thank you.

If you don’t want to buy online, one option is to buy the JR Pass at the stations e.g. Tokyo Ueno , see [here](https://japanrailpass.net/en/exchange.html)
There is no one website for JR rail passes.

This site shows where you can buy it online or via third parties.

If I recall, the Japan Centre in London is an official seller. Or at least they were, some years ago.
