Has anyone ever exported a car they own from Japan to the States?

It’s a bitch
No, but I looked into it from Europe. Don’t bother.
The tl;dr is that you need to get the car up to American standards which are just different than anywhere else. Taillights are different, sometimes structural requirements are different. It would have literally cost me more than a new car to get it done.
The exception is older cars (like pre-1970) which are exempt from all that.
Ever heard the expression ‘taking coal to Newcastle’?
I believe to license a car from Japan in the US the car must be 25 years old or older.
There is/was a trendy movement to ship to the US kei trucks for resale. As was said the process is a pita.
Old car? Okay.
USDM in Japan (corvette etc.) Okay.
Otherwise, no.
