It’s frustrating to put this much effort into Japanese and it’s nowhere near the level of my broken heritage language which I put no effort into what so ever
By broken heritage language, I mean it’s probably on the same level as an 8 yr old but I’m able to hear the language so clearly, I can hear unique accents and word choice and personality, but then when it comes to Japanese everything is so fast and can’t really hear the ‘soul’ of the language
Why is that my heritage language which I feel like I have a small vocab am able to hear this deeply but then when it comes to Japanese which I feel my vocab is bigger can’t hear as deep.
Any bilingual experience this?

I’m sorry you had put in so much effort and still have to feel this way.
maybe this is a good time to pause a bit, grab a big piece of paper, and compare side-by-side how you‘ ve been learning Japanese and language X. Look for things you did for the heritage language, and start doing it for the japanese.
one of the things could be, “keep listening even if it sounds too fast”.
if you feel like your outcome is greatly mismatched with the vast amount of your energy investment, it can only indicate you were using less suitable study methods.
you can try really hard to climb a tree, it’s never going to give you fish.
You are vastly underestimating the amount of comprehensible and incomprehensible input you received in your heritage language compared to Japanese. The fact that you are older now doesnt mean at all that you will learn things faster because you are now “smart”, actually it will stunt your progress if you expect quicker results.
