I’m having to write bits of dialogue for a japanese character who (to put a complicated explanation simply) speaks like a person from 1970/60’s hokkaido. I’ve collected trivia, but not much substantial. Where would be a good source for speaking like an old person in japanese? Maybe with different decades as well? Would it just be more efficient to find a japanese person —who speaks english— that doesn’t mind being asked a question like this?

Are you talking about language style or content? Like talking about the news of the 60s/70s?
That’s a very specific and interesting question! I’d love to help, since I lived in Sapporo in 1973-75; but even though I became bilingual and biliterate during that time through immersion and rigorous study, I was and always will be a *gaijin*. Keep in mind that much or most of Hokkaido’s population is considered to speak standard Japanese (ie, no strong dialect), but I don’t know whether you’re interested more in capturing the speaking style or the substance of that time. Anyway, I googled “nhk Sapporo 1970s” and here’s one of the links that came up (and that I plan to explore myself!). If it’s at all helpful, great! Good luck!

You don’t speak Japanese but you need to write a dialogue in Japanese?? I imagine it’d be hard even for a Japanese speaking person to write it in the specific style you’re asking for… hope you get all the help you need!
