Any good alternatives to Japanese Wikipedia?

I keep hearing about how japanese wikipedia is of poor quality and having a right-wing bent.

Are there any good alternative sites I can read articles on varieties of subjects?

  1. I think the reason that Japanese Wikipedia is pretty biased is because even if people actively try to suppress their biases, they will still surface regardless. English Wikipedia is *relatively* neutral due to the fact that many people from many countries speak English, and can thus contribute to English Wikipedia, so the biases can somewhat balance each other out.

However, the only people who can contribute to Japanese Wikipedia are mostly people born and raised in Japan. So even if they have differing political views, the bias comes through stronger due to the lack of diversity in the contributor base. While I’m sure that there are some editors who are super right wing, I think it’s probably more an issue of unconscious bias that will likely happen in most writing.

  2. Just find articles that are less political in nature. Learn about butterflies, guitars, persian rugs, etc.
