Is it a warranty issue–something actually wrong with it?
And a guess, but if they do take it back, you’ll get store credit, not cash.
Presuming that’s the same chain as Book Off/Mode Off etc, I returned a ¥165,000 guitar 48 hours after purchase to Hard Off because of a defect. It had a 6 month warranty I think. They tried for a few minutes to put me off getting the refund, offering to have it repaired instead, but soon accepted, refunding to my credit card in full. So, for defects, it seems possible.
Most off off-house items come with a warranty. However, some items are marked as “Junk” (ジャンク) and they don’t provide a warranty at all.
If you did buy something classified as “Junk”, you would probably know about it as they clearly warn you when you buy it.
By the way, pretty much every “Junk” item I’ve bought has worked perfectly. They just can’t be bothered to test it.
Gonna date myself here. 22 years ago I bought a Minidisc player/recorder from them only to find it wouldn’t record properly when I brought it home. Brought it back and somehow stumbled through an explanation in my then fairly shitty Japanese. The guy plugged it in, tried recording something, said “yeah, it’s exactly as you said,” and refunded the cash on the spot.
Anyway, yeah, if the flame won’t go down, it’s probably defective and they should refund your money without any issues.
