Emergency travel to America. Am I approved?

So, my father passed away earlier this week and I need to go home to sort things out and come back shortly after.

I was vaccinated twice (Comirnaty) in the end of 2021, but I’m not sure about my eligibility for travel. I haven’t gotten any boosters, but completed my first 2-dose Pfizer set. From my understanding, from my searches online, I seem like I’d be cleared to travel, but I’m just not sure… Because God, this is an such a mess…

I’m hoping this community will be able to shed more light out of experience or legal understanding.

Just really haven’t been keeping up with this stuff and wasn’t planning on going home so soon…

  1. You can go to the USA. You can come back to Japan too, but need to get a PCR test because you have only two doses of vaccine. If you get a booster, it’ll be much easier to come back to Japan.

  2. ~~My understanding is that USA doesn’t care at all at this point.~~ edit: needs double vax proof for non-U.S. citizen per comments below.

To return to Japan you’ll need to be either triple vaxed (and filled out vaccine cert/data in MySOS now known as VJW app) or have a within-72hours negative PCR test. That’s all.

  3. Are you an American citizen? If so, you don’t need to be vaccinated. If not, you need to show proof of being vaccinated with 2 doses – at least 14 days before entering.

To return back to Japan, you need 3 doses of a vaccine, or a negative test within 72 hours of entering.

  4. If your an American citizen, 3 vaccine mandate is not required, this only applies to foreigners entering the USA.

To return to Japan you need a PCR test
