School refused to send me refund on international account

Hey all,

I am posting to see if someone has any idea on how to resolve this other than opening a Japanese bank account, so I am leaving for good on Dec, and my school are supposed to refund me some money, but they refused to refund me on my country’s account. I think they want to avoid paying fees.
Is there any way to get this money without having a bank account in Japan? I still live here by the way, or like an easy way to open a bank account, want to hear your thoughts on this.
I do not have a permanent address anymore.

  1. What’s the reason that they gave you?

I don’t think it’s an issue of fees, because (usually) you would be the one who has to pay for it anyway, and it would just be deducted from the amount that they are sending to you.

If they’re telling you “no” to both an international transfer, or cash; then you just have to ask them what options do they have for you and work with them on it.

If you have a proper status of residence, opening a Japan Post bank account is as easy as walking into a branch and spending about 20-40 minutes there. You just need to bring your residence card with you… maybe your passport too.

How much money are you taking about? And it’s odd that they won’t do cash – it seems to be the easiest for everyone involved. Maybe try to talk to the owner of the school, instead of just the front office staff?
