Oh no, there are massive rich traditions of kana calligraphy. [Check these out.](https://www.google.co.jp/search?q=%E4%BB%AE%E5%90%8D%E3%80%80%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjuiePx5c37AhWLn3IEHSfcD4YQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=%E4%BB%AE%E5%90%8D%E3%80%80%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBwgAEIAEEBgyBwgAEIAEEBgyBggAEAgQHjoHCAAQBBCABDoJCAAQBBCABBAYUOIDWJMVYK4XaABwAHgAgAGMAYgB_geSAQQxMy4xmAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=BgyDY-7uCIu_ytMPp7i_sAg&bih=722&biw=1536)
If you take a look at [first graders’ calligraphy](https://www.google.com/search?q=%E4%B8%80%E5%B9%B4%E7%94%9F%E3%81%AE%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwim8oH25c37AhVRIH0KHRY2CmIQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=%E4%B8%80%E5%B9%B4%E7%94%9F%E3%81%AE%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQogQ6AggpOgcIABCABBAYOgcIABAEEIAEOgUIABCABDoJCAAQBBCABBAlOgcIABCABBAXOgsIABAEEIAEECUQGFCGEFirY2DRZGgFcAB4A4ABgQOIAewckgEIMjYuNS4yLjGYAQCgAQGwAQLAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=DwyDY-auAtHA9AOW7KiQBg&bih=635&biw=320&client=ms-android-lge-rvo3&prmd=isvn), you’ll see it’s almost exclusively kana and grade 1 kanji.
There are [calligraphy styles](https://www.google.com/search?q=%E3%81%8B%E3%81%AA%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjvwO-S5s37AhWYKjQIHfBVBzgQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=%E3%81%8B%E3%81%AA%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEOgIIKToHCAAQBBCABFC6EVjCNWDnNmgAcAB4AYABzQOIAbIPkgEJOC4xLjAuMi4xmAEAoAEBsAEDwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=SwyDY6_vIZjV0PEP8KudwAM&bih=635&biw=320&client=ms-android-lge-rvo3&prmd=isvn) based on [Heian era writing](https://www.google.com/search?q=%E5%B9%B3%E5%AE%89%E6%99%82%E4%BB%A3%E3%81%AE%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjm3NOh5837AhUcMjQIHb1RBz4Q2-cCegQIABAC&oq=%E5%B9%B3%E5%AE%89%E6%99%82%E4%BB%A3%E3%81%AE%E6%9B%B8%E9%81%93&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBwgAEIAEEBgyBwgAEIAEEBgyBwgAEIAEEBgyBwgAEIAEEBg6BQgAEKIEOgIIKToJCAAQBBCABBAlOgsIABAEEIAEECUQGFDdB1i-XGD7XWgCcAB4AYAB3QOIAeYNkgEJOC40LjEuMC4xmAEAoAEBwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=dg2DY-bJPJzk0PEPvaOd8AM&bih=635&biw=320&client=ms-android-lge-rvo3&prmd=isvn) which use historical kana forms as well.
Yes. Often. I see calligraphy sheets hung up at the train station every week and many of them are hiragana. I’m guessing it’s stuff from high schoolers but maybe elementary school calligraphy too. Idk.
