What’s the mask wearing etiquette when people come into your house?

Probably a silly question but it’s been on my mind. Recently i’ve had a bunch of people come in my house for 10-30 minutes at a time. Once to fix the stove, some delivery men setting up furniture, that sort of thing. I always jump to put on my mask when they come in but my mom is heavily against the idea for some reason. So to avoid an argument I don’t usually wear one and keep my distance. But it feels wrong somehow, I know masks aren’t required here by any law but it still feels weird and I don’t want to accidentally be disrespectful! Insight would be nice, even if there isn’t a straight yes or no answer.

  1. Randos coming into my house wear a mask. There is no spoken rule but its obvious. We had some renovations done recently. We all wore masks the whole time.

We don’t know where they’ve been and they don’t know where we’ve been. It’s just polite to mask up

  2. Wear it. It’s only respectful. Especially in a closed environment.
I try to wear one when opening the door, too. They don’t need whatever germs I have.

  3. I wear them when delivery or service personnel come to my place, as a courtesy to them mostly (in case they’d feel uneasy if I’m not masked).

I don’t wear them during social gatherings with friends, etc. There’s no point if we’re going to be eating & drinking together anyway.

  4. I don’t bother in my own house. especially knowing that it has no power against virus.

  5. Depends who they are.

Delivery/contractor? I’ll put my mask on and it would annoy me if they didn’t.

Guest I don’t know very well? I’ll start with a mask and see where they go with it.

    Friend/family? No mask.

  6. It depends on why are they there. If a guy goes into your house to fix your gas system, you should be wearing a mask. If it’s a tinder date to spend the night, I’d say don’t wear a mask. But feel free to do the opposite if you want.

  7. I wear a mask if I’m close to them or talking to them. Definitely don’t wear a mask the entire time they’re here even if they’re in the other room or something. Not like these surgical masks have THAT much efficacy anyway…mostly good for grabbing those droplets when speaking.

My husband and I were just at a gathering today. Very fascinating how everyone shows up with a mask…takes it off to start eating and drinking, never puts it back on, until you are about to leave. Then you put it back on. Like a coat. Which leads me to believe at this point probably at least 7 or so of every 10 people is just wearing a mask so that other people won’t think poorly of them…because they take them off in the most risky of situations anyway…
