姿三四郎 was originally a novel that eventually turned into several movies, several TV series, several mangas, .. The story was about a young Japanese who was one of the pioneers of Judo during the period when western culture invaded Japan. Traditional martial arts, like Jujutsu, were on the brink of being totally displaced by foreign martial arts, like boxing.
This was a dramatized story about the judukas in Kodokan. Judo replaced traditional Jujutsu and was introduced to the Japanese education system. Japanese police were taught Judo and Judo became a martial art for self defense in Japan.
