Hello! I’m new to this sub.
In about 2 months, I’ll be leaving to study in a rural part of Japan for a year. It suddenly started to weigh on me that I’m not sure how to talk to Japanese people or know how to make friends with Japanese people. I’ve been studying Japanese for 3 years through my school, so I know I can hold semi-decent/basic conversation. But I’m afraid I might not fit in or make any friends.
So for those who have that experience, how did you make friends/learn how to fit in/or date when you started living in Japan? Any advice is helpful!

Same way you make friends everywhere; talk to your classmates, make sure you take part in social events, never turn down an invitation!
