Insurance and Visa Renewal Question

Hello all,

I just moved and have to renew my job-hunting visa simultaneously. I was planning on going to get my moving-out certificate from my old ward tomorrow but they will take my insurance card. I am leaving the country for Christmas/New Year and applying for renewal next week. The new insurance card from Minato will likely not arrive by then.

Should I wait until my return from overseas to officially “move out” from my old ward so that I am able to submit my insurance card for immigration? Or will my new ward grant me temporary proof of insurance to bring to immigration?

Assistance is much appreciated, thank you!

  1. Regarding the new card.

    Seems like from here ([https://www.city.minato.tokyo.jp/shikaku/kuse/kocho/faq/hoken/054.html](https://www.city.minato.tokyo.jp/shikaku/kuse/kocho/faq/hoken/054.html))

You can get it right at the window when you apply in person.

Of course on the other more general pages it seems to suggest it will come by mail, but you may want to ask Minato ward office itself to be sure.

In my local area, if you have the right ID (like MyNumber) you can get the insurance card right on the spot.

  2. Are you not able to provide proof of insurance payment to prove you’ve paid up to this point? I don’t think I’ve been asked for my insurance card explicitly before to renew my visa status.
