There are many of them. And I see them keep doing some crazy discount/cash back if you switch, some of them will pay for your fee to break the previous contract. I do have not much idea how they work but it’s not my problem to worry about these big cooperation’s finances.
I’ve been unnecessarily loyal to Au all these years and paid off my phone in a one-time payment. I recently decided to switch because I find out there is no benefit to being loyal to them at all. (Also Au really doesn’t worth it… ridiculously expensive and slow!!) Is it the best idea to always switch carriers for these discounts, especially when I’m planning to buy a new phone at the same time?
I’m sorry if this is an often-asked question.

If you calculated the cancel fee and everything checks out then why not.
The only problem is when carrier gives discount (like paying for cancel fee from prev contract) they usually give it in installment, like 12 or 24 months. So if you break contract again you will lose those discount.
So yeah the system is designed so you have to stay for 1-2 years to maximize your discount. If you break contract you will lose a lot. Make sure you know what you’re doing.
