Residence card renewal

1. > Hello, I’ve been living in japan for the past 3 months and will stay for 7 more months with my working holiday visa. Since I have a WHV, I have a residence card. Or so I should but I lost it at the airport when I arrived(probably) and went to the police about 2 weeks later when I was sure I lost it to file a report and they told me to go to the immigration center to have a new card made. Fast forward to today and I still haven’t done it. It’s very far from where I live and I’ve been very busy lately. Now that I have time I want to go do it but I wonder if it will be a problem that I haven’t done anything about it for the past months and if I can just get sent back to my country or have some problems… I am really worried so please help ! Thanks a lot

   Do you know what’s worse than not going and facing the music? Doing absolutely nothing! I’m sure you’ll have a fun time if you get stopped for some reason by the police and are asked to show the card which you are required to carry on you at all times by law. Think about what you are asking. You want reassurance. I doubt anyone here can give you that. Just go to immigration ASAP. Make sure you have the police report which you filed (if you haven’t lost it). Don’t forget your passport, too!

2. Oh man, you’re playing with fire.

   Go to immigration ASAP, it should be your top priority at the moment taking precedence over any “Busy” stuff you got going.

   If you get caught without your Residence Card that you’re required to carry with you at all times by law, you can land in some very troubled waters.

3. You will need to fill out a ton of paperwork, receive a bunch of paperwork from the police and even then they probably wont issue a new one, the fine for waiting over 2 weeks to reissue the card is 200,000 yen or up to 6 months in jail, so I’d get that sorted

4. To be honest I think you’re already turbofucked. You’re basically an illegal immigrant right now.
