I crossed a yellow line, got a ticket. I got a letter from the police saying I have to go to a menkyo center and attend a 2 hour seminar in order to renew my license. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Thanks.
It sounds like this is your first time renewing a licence here. The 2 hour lecture is mandatory for everyone renewing for the first time. It’s just videos and explanations if all the rules and signs. A kind of driving school theory refresher so to speak. No quiz or grading.
Everyone has to attend a safety lecture in order to renew their license. The length of the lecture depends on how many years you have had your license and if you had any tickets since the previous renewal. Those with tickets have to attend a longer lecture.
You’ll show up, check in, go to the lecture and when it’s over you’ll pay and get your new license. There is no test, you just have to be there.
Your first renewal you have to go through that regardless of tickets or not. Just go and don’t let them catch you sleeping.

I had to do that too, it’s no big deal, you don’t need to take a test or anything, just sit down there and take a 2 hour class. Then you get the license renewed and you’re good to go
If you get there on time or 5 mins early you will have to sit in the only available seats, directly in front of the instructor and it’s more rude to sleep then, gona little early sit in back and snooze

Pay close attention. You’ll learn secret knowledge like “if you don’t turn on the lights at night, you can’t see”.
You’ll also get to enjoy overacted videos from the 80s where a careless driver hits a kid and has to go apologise to the family with lots of sobbing and bowing.
And there will be cake…I mean cake diagrams. Lots of them. With the exact breakdown of accidents by age, gender, vehicle, city, blood type, favourite food… Overall it’s great fun. /s

If you have a beginners license or a regular license the lecture is two hours. Just appear to be attentive and don’t fall asleep and they’ll give you your new license at the end of the lecture. If you fall asleep and they kick you out you won’t be able to get your license until you reschedule the lecture and go through it again.
