I am currently using a document and paint the English translation the same color as the background. I was wondering if there was a better way to do something like that.
If you are on a Samsung device, what I’ve been doing is using the stylus to pin a rectangle to the screen and just dragging it while reading text like you would use a [bookmark to cover text while reading](http://k12visualexpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_2362-1.jpg) (like this but opaque)
There’s probably a better way.
What kind of document are you using (PDF?) and how is it formatted? Is the JP text above the English?

it depends on the geometry of the situation, and maybe other factors as well
Depends on what kind of document. Different documents (and their associated software) have different capabilities.
Some types of documents will support tooltip and comments, which you can use to keep the translation out of the main body.
Any advanced text editor should do the trick, MSWord for instance can color text.
