I think it’ll be more expensive to bring a TV into Japan (or you can try a second hand shop near a military base, I’ve seen a few American TVs sold there for cheap), but also if you want to watch Japanese TV broadcasts, you need a device to hook up to the TV that will take BS-CAS cards.
Small market and the requirement for BCAS and special ACAS technology which while not expensive, is not cheap.
