The other day I was talking to a friend and she was wearing a 大坂Mizuno hoodie, she asked me if I knew the kanji and istinctly read it as 「おおさか」
After that chat, I found myself researching a bit about the brand for a project and noticed that it wasn’t the kanji I thought it was so… here’s the question, what’s the difference between 「大阪」and 「大坂」?
I tried to do some research but it was proven to be useless as I only found websites with walls of text completely in Japanese, which I’m not able to understand yet.

大阪 & 大坂 are variant names, due to 阪 & 坂 being variant Characters
大阪 is the current official spelling for the city.
大坂 is an older version. Some sites seem to suggest that 坂 was thought to be unlucky because you could read it as 土に反(る), so they swapped it out for the 阪 variant, not sure how factual that is.
