Japanese News Resources

Looking for apps/websites for news in Japanese; any recommendations are really appreciated!!

I’m open to anything: news that native Japanese people themselves use, ones that are designed for Japanese learners/beginners, and both written and audio news (by the way, my focus isn’t to keep up with news, but to improve my reading and listening skills if that wasn’t clear).

  1. The Easy Japanese app and [website](https://easyjapanese.net/) works really well for this. They pull from NHK Easy and other sources, and they have furigana, pop-up definitions, vocab cards that can be sent to Anki, etc. They also color-code each article in the app (not sure about the site) for how much vocab is at each JLPT level, so you can see difficulty at a glance.

  2. Not to be a smartass, but it’s as easy as googling ニュース and clicking around.

  3. Not sure about sites that are easy for beginners, but the Asahi Shimbun has their site in both Japanese and English. I basically use it as a source for Japan-focused news coverage, but you could use it to practice reading Japanese and then switch to the English version to see how close you were.

It’s one of the newspapers with the widest circulation in Japan, so it is fairly commonly used by native speakers.

  4. Believe it or not, Yahoo isn’t a joke site in Japan. You could try [yahoo news](https://m.yahoo.co.jp/) and even read the comments if you want to learn “real” internet Japanese.

Otherwise, the other comments are good advice: NHK easy news.
