**Giving consideration to sim card and pocket wifi options. I am sure my options will be dependent on my placement, but as a general recommendation guide for us incoming JETS, please feel free to leave your best Sim Card and Pocket Wifi recommendations below.**
*So far*, I am planning on getting a Sim card from [Mobal](https://www.mobal.com/japan-sim-card/), since they deliver it to your home country.
I am looking at their 10g option to get me started. Any experience with this brand? After a few months, I would likely switch to a cheaper carrier, something like Rakuten.
I am also looking for good but affordable Pocket-Wifi recommendations to have a reliable connection at home and potentially at work. I don’t game, but I use Youtube, Spotify, Netflix, social media, email, and Google Maps on the go.
I could upgrade to have actual wifi set up if needed, depending on which option proves most affordable.
Please feel free to leave your experiences with using a Pocket Wifi as your main internet source below.

mobal.com for phone sims
lightpocket.jp for mobile wifi which is probably faster than On my way! Wifi and no 3 year binding contracts.
Stay away from Sakura
If you can afford it, I’d look at a phone plan with data and actual internet at home.
It may be difficult depending on location and your housing situation, but it’s generally a lot better. Look at your area and see if you can get Nuro.
I use sakura mobile for 3gof data and pocket wifi plan (10g over 3 days) for 11,000 per month
I use Sakura mobile for my phone and data plan.
For pocket wifi, I recommend iVideo. I use this for my home internet and at work. I use this for my laptop, my switch, and phone, and I stream and video call back home regularly. When I signed up for it, I paid for x amount of months, had it shipped to me, and when I’m done using it, I can just drop it in a mailbox. You can send it back earlier if you decide you wanna end your deal before the original plan. I got a nice discount and paid I think 250ish usd for 10 months. And I was able to use my USA credit card to pay.
For context, I live in the inaka. There’s occasional times where it will drop, but for the most part, it’s been very reliable for me and such a great deal. But I’m only staying for less than a year, so if you’re staying long term, you may want to consider internet over a pocket wifi.
I currently use a Mobal sim and haven’t had any issues for the 2 years I’ve been here. I got a Mobal pocket wifi too when I was in quarantine which was useful for when I arrived at my placement.
It took a while to get internet set up, so having the pocket wifi was useful. It was only 100gb for the month, but it was better than nothing.
