April 20 – May 2: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima in 12 days

Hello! I wanted to get the community’s thoughts on this itinerary.

First time to Japan. Traveling with two others. We move between fairly quickly on most of our trips and are not the type to spend a week in one.

That said we only plan to see the “highlights” and not try to jam pack each day. We add more points of interests as time allows. We do want to see some of the historic sites and temples but we are foodies at heart.

Few questions:

If I land at 2PM, what time should I book a shinkansen for to Kyoto?

April 29th on is Golden Week. Should I shift anything around to avoid major crowds? I moved Tokyo to the end of the trip to avoid traveling between cities those days.

I can always cut out the day in Osaka and spend in it Kyoto but I was hoping to get some good food in Osaka and also keep accommodations cost lower.
